18 DECEMBER 2024 – The UIA Delegation at COP29: Advancing Architecture’s Role in Global Climate Action

The International Union of Architects (UIA) delegation’s participation at COP29 in Baku, Azerbaijan, marked a crucial step in aligning the architectural profession with the global climate agenda. The event underscored both the opportunities and challenges architects face in driving transformative climate action, particularly in vulnerable economies.

The final lecture in the 2024 Daylight Talk series is entitled ‘Crafting the Intangible’ by Department of ARCHITECTURE Co, in collaboration with the National University of Singapore (NUS).

29 NOVEMBER 2024 – Large participation at EGA in Kuala Lumpur

In connection with the UIA 2024 International Forum on Diversecity, the 2024 Extraordinary General Assembly (EGA) took place in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on 18–19 November 2024. On the first day, 18 November, the assembly acknowledged the reports of the International Officers, Vice-Presidents, Council Committees, Commissions, and Work Programmes, as well as the final report on the Copenhagen Congress and the preparations for the Barcelona Congress.

28 NOVEMBER 2024 – Outcome of the 2024 UIA International Forum in Kuala Lumpur

The International Union of Architects (UIA) is pleased to announce the successful conclusion of the UIA International Forum 2024, held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on 15 to 17 November under the auspices of the Pertubuhan Akitek Malaysia (PAM). The event, themed “Diversecity”, explored the profound meaning of diversity in urban contexts, focusing on cultural, social, and environmental inclusivity in city design.

IDEAS COMPETITION FOR YOUNG ARCHITECTS

Winners have been announced for the 10 Blind Walls international competition for young architects. Organised by Fundació Mies van der Rohe and the Barcelona City Council, the single stage ideas competition open to all young architects was organised as part of the city’s nomination as the 2026 UNESCO-UIA World Capital of Architecture.

Sustainable Architecture

The 19th edition of the Global Award for Sustainable Architecture launches today, on World Architecture Day. The Award’s theme is “Architecture Is Transformation,” dedicated to how we can transform the existing built environment, urban and rural infrastructures through sustainable design, and its material and immaterial dimensions.

The VELUX Group has announced the global winners for the 2024 Edition of the International VELUX Award for students of architecture. This biennial competition, endorsed by the UIA since 2004, invites participants to explore daylight in one of 2 categories: Daylight in Buildings and Daylight Investigations.

The 2024 edition of the International VELUX Award, a biannual international student ideas competition endorsed by the UIA since 2004, has announced its Regional Winners.

2 JULY 2024 – Finalists announced for the second edition of the UIA 2030 Award

The UIA, in partnership with UN-Habitat, has announced the finalists for the first stage of the second edition of the UIA 2030 Award. The Award recognises the work of architects who contribute to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the New Urban Agenda.

The laureates of the Daylight Award 2024 are Spanish architect and professor Alberto Campo Baeza (Daylight in Architecture) and German professor of chronobiology Till Roenneberg (Daylight in Research).

23 April 2024 – Daylight Talk by Francesco Veenstra

The 2024 Daylight Talk series continues with Francesco Veenstra, chief architect to the Dutch government since 2021 and partner at Vakwerk architecten in Delft since 2017. He presents the lecture “Transitional Society: a delicate balancing act” on daylight in collaboration with Eindhoven University of Technology.

29 FEBRUARY 2024 – Daylight Talk by Liene Jākobsone

The 2024 Daylight Talk series kicks off with ‘Light, Views, Transparencies’ by Liene Jākobsone in collaboration with the Art Academy of Latvia.

Discussing some of the practice’s projects, the lecture will reveal a significant part of the conceptual approach of Sampling: the exploration of how architecture unfolds in the eyes of its inhabitants and what unexpected and unusual experiences it can offer.
