The 14th São Paulo International Architecture Biennale (BIAsp), themed “Extremes: Architectures for an Overheated Planet,” is scheduled to take place from September 18 to October 19, 2025, at Ibirapuera Park in São Paulo, Brazil. This edition aims to explore the role of architecture in addressing the challenges posed by climate change and extreme weather events.
The Biennale will focus on five key axes:
- Preserving Forests and Reforesting Cities: Emphasizing the integration of vegetation to combat global warming and improve urban microclimates.
- Embracing Water: Exploring solutions like stream renaturalization and nature-based strategies to enhance water cycle management.
- Refurbishing More and Building Green: Promoting adaptive reuse of buildings and sustainable, low-carbon construction methods.
- Moving and Reaching Places Together with Renewable Energies: Investigating urban planning and mobility networks to reduce individual travel and encourage active transportation, alongside energy transitions in public transport.
- Ensuring Climate Justice and Social Housing: Addressing the vulnerabilities of marginalized communities to extreme climate events, focusing on equitable and sustainable housing solutions.
The curation of the 14th São Paulo International Architecture Biennale is led by the Curatorial Committee, composed of six professionals from different regions of Brazil, whose backgrounds span architecture, urbanism, pedagogy, academic research, social activism, and cultural production.
