Project: Remodeling of the Historic Site in Commemoration of the Bicentennial of National Independence
Project Overview – A Vision for a Public & Commemorative Space
The proposal integrates modern urban elements with heritage preservation, enhancing the Plaza Asamblea and its surrounding historical context.
- Metal Roof Structure: Completes the urban fabric, aligning with existing building heights to create continuity in the streetscape.
- Open & Flexible Public Space: The Plaza-Foyer serves as an adaptable space for public events, gatherings, and everyday activities, ensuring unobstructed views and maintaining urban integration.
- User-Centered Design: Inspired by flexible public spaces like Luxembourg Park in Paris and New York’s new urban plazas, the project includes movable furniture, allowing users to shape their own space.
- The Garden – A Hybrid Ecosystem: Designed to promote biodiversity, the landscape plan prioritizes coexistence between people, flora, and fauna, creating a self-sustaining ecosystem that redefines the relationship between nature and public space.
This innovative and adaptable approach to urban design preserves history while embracing contemporary public space trends, making it a significant contribution to Uruguay’s architectural landscape.
