03/03/2025

The International Seminar: Building a Global Urban Agenda for COP30 will take place on 5–6 June 2025 in São Luís do Maranhão, Brazil, bringing together architects, urban planners, policymakers, and private sector representatives to develop strategies for sustainable urban development in the face of climate change.

Through a series of panel discussions, exhibitions, and cultural activities, the seminar will explore pressing global challenges, including:

  • Urban adaptation to climate change
  • Preservation of forests and traditional communities
  • Sustainable urbanisation
  • Climate-resilient architecture
  • Financing urban infrastructure

Set in the UNESCO-listed Historic Centre of São Luís, the event will take place at Teatro João do Vale and across historic buildings along Rua da Estrela, creating a dynamic cultural and architectural setting for dialogue.

The seminar is organised by the Instituto de Arquitetos do Brasil (IAB) in partnership with the International Union of Architects (UIA), the Pan-American Federation of Architects Associations (FPAA), and the International Council of Portuguese-Speaking Architects (CIALP). It forms part of the lead-up to COP30, which will be held in Belém (PA) from 10 to 21 November 2025.
