Born in 1944 in Lleida, Spain, Jaime Duró Pifarré graduated from the Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura de Barcelona (1972) and founded his own practice, Duró Arquitectura e Ingeniería, based in Barcelona and Madrid.
In addition to his professional practice, he was advisor for the European Commissioner (1999-2005) and on an institutionnal level, the Past President of the International Union of Architects (UIA) from 1993 to 1996, also served as Dean of the College of Architects of Catalonia (1989-1990), President of the Consejo Superior de los Colegios de Arcquitectos de España (1990-2002) and President of the Architects Council of Europe (1998).
Jaime Duró designed prestigious buildings in Spain as well as hotel and leisure projects and public buildings, notably the Juvenil Court of the Justice Campus of Madrid in collaboration with Rafael de la Hoz, the seat of Nissan in Barcelona, the AC Vilamarí Hotel in Barcelona.
In 2023, Jaime Duró received the CSCAE’s medal for his contibution to the adoption of the Spanish Law for Building Act (Ley de Ordenación de la Edificación – LOE). He was also a laureate of the Premio FAD 1973, Premio Arquitectura Sostenible Meeting Point 2007 He was Honor academician of the Academia Mundial de Ciencias, Tecnología y Formación Profesional (letra M) and honorary fellow of numerous professional organisations such as the Panamerican Institute of Architects (FPAA) and the Colegio de Arquitectos de Chile.
