International Business Centre and Intercontinental Hotel in Yerevan City Centre

About the competition
Avangard Motors LLC in conjunction with Yerevan City Hall and the Union of Architects of the Republic of Armenia, along with the participation of the Ministry of Urban Development of the Republic of Armenia, the Ministry of Diaspora of the Republic of Armenia, and the International Association of Unions of Architects (UIA) has announced an international competition for the development of an Architectural concept for an International Business Center with an Intercontinental Hotel in the City of Yerevan.

Theme and objectives

This competition as for goal the construction of a luxurious International Business Center with an Intercontinental Hotel in the heart of the city of Yerevan in Armenia. Besides the Intercontinental Hotel, this competition si for a multifunctional complex with business centre, residential area… The organizers seek a landmark architectural solution for this new development located on a very prominent site in the city, with a view of Mont Ararat to the south.

The goal of the competition is to realize a new and original urban development project that is both architecturally and functionally integrated into the surrounding cityscape. Indeed, the design proposal must appear as a dominant architectural solution from all points in the city.

For the Intercontinental hotel, it should be located in the southern part of the territory, with a maximum number of rooms enabling a direct view of the city. Appearing as a dominant architectural element due to its location and volume, the hotel building should be the most striking element of the construction.

Unlike the special requirements for the design of the Intercontinental hotel complex, no requirements exist for the design of the business center, residential complex, and other buildings.

Key criteria

For this competition, the jury were sensitive to the following criteria :

  • Urban integration;
  • Site strategy;
  • Architectural proposition;
  • Landscape concept;
  • Meeting the program and functional requirements of the brief;
  • Development and construction logic;
  • Environmental strategy.

The participants should respect the following main criteria :

  • Volumetric-spatial solution of the urban planning project for the international business center (IBC).
  • The significance and uniqueness of the architectural solution of the hotel complex, which is dominant.

Architects worldwide, individually or in teams led by an architect, that have the right to practice the profession in their countries. And, organizations that have a license for practicing architecture.
