Kenyan Architect Spotlight: Arch. Emma Miloyo 

Arch. Emma Miloyo is a trailblazer in architecture and leadership in Kenya, recognised for her contributions to real estate, advocacy, and gender inclusivity in the built environment.

She has broken barriers as the first female president of the Architectural Association of Kenya (AAK) and continues to inspire future generations of women in architecture.

First Female President of the Architectural Association of Kenya (AAK) and Vice President & Council Member of the East Africa Institute of Architects (EAIA). During her tenure as AAK President, Emma elevated the visibility of the organization through media presence, advocacy, and CSR projects. Key initiatives included:

  • The Status of the Built Environment (bi-annual publication)
  • The Kenya We Want (a vision-driven report)
  • Je, Una Mjengo? (public awareness clinics)

One of her most significant contributions was inspiring more women to step into leadership roles within the built environment sector, leading to a 50% female leadership representation across several professional associations.

Emma co-founded Women in Real Estate (WIRE) a dedicated platform for advancing the achievements of women within the built environment. WIRE provides resources for business growth, career advancement, and deal structuring while fostering a collaborative spirit among women professionals. Beyond individual success, WIRE cultivates a collaborative spirit, inspiring teamwork and encouraging the next generation of women to pursue careers in the industry.

Project: Jesuits Development

The project involved the creation of an aesthetic, unique and contemporary design that can be managed in an environmentally sensitive manner offering an interactive experience to the users. The project should encompass and reflect the values of Jesuists, creating an environment that is comfortable, relatable and environmentally friendly.
