The UNESCO-UIA World Capital of Architecture Joint Committee works to ensure the coordination, monitoring and evaluation of all activities related to the designation of the World Capital of Architecture. It also acts as a supervising body for the organisation of the ensuing World Capital of Architecture activities, for which the local government of the designated city is responsible.

The Committee is composed of an equal number of members from each institution, as well as an independent architect appointed by mutual agreement. Committee members cannot have any affiliation with the candidate cities.
